Writing & Book Coaching

I’ve been working with writers for almost forty years as an independent writing and book coach, along with teaching in MFA programs and writing workshops.  Helping writers launch, develop, and finish their projects has always been my favorite part of teaching. My specialty is nonfiction, especially memoir, personal essay, and writing about trauma (that’s where I started, in poetry and then prose). I’ve also worked with poetry, fiction, and screenplay projects.

Being immersed in writing that matters to you, and bringing your work to completion—as you define it—is what I can help with. I’ve worked in-depth with writers in the Queens University of Charlotte’s MFA program, the Cedar Crest College Pan-European MFA Program, the Iowa Summer Writing Festival, and the Fine Arts Work Center at Provincetown. I’ve also given talks and workshops at San Miguel de Allende Writers’ Conference, the Baltimore Writers’ Conference, the South Carolina Writers’ Festival, the Power of Words Conference, the Examined Life Conference, and the Association of Writers & Writing Program’s annual conference.
